Gascoigne Baffled Window Review
Our Interoperability studies through research with the University of Bath, allows MACH to run IES (Thermal and Daylight) and 3D noise mapping in tandem. This means we can now tailor the integration of daylighting, ventilation (for open area), solar shading (for a redecided open area), façade shaping (for reduced noise levels), thermal mass, window selection and of course acoustics to a whole new level. This case study illustrates our integrated approach for a large residential scheme at RIBA 2.
Gascoigne Integrated Façade Assessment
The sound reduction of open windows is limited and therefore noise break-in can be a real issue, restricting the opportunity for simple natural ventilation opportunities on projects with higher noise levels. MACH has therefore taken the next step in enhancing the acoustic performance of open windows, allowing natural ventilation to be utilised on more acoustically challenging sites. This case study therefore provides details of in house FDTD modelling and acoustic testing window Baffles options specifically designed to maximise natural ventilation options.
CPD Brochure
MACH has developed the following series of CPD's to share knowledge and experience that will result in better, greener buildings.
MACH Products: Honeycomb Attenuator
Learn more about MACH Products' Honeycomb Attenuator. The Honeycomb Attenuator is a highly flexible but specifically designed product to overcome the clashes between natural ventilation and acoustics.

WEMBLEY ALTO, NW06
MACH Acoustics have undertaken a detailed review of the proposed acoustic design for the residential areas of this development. This executive summary provides comment on the areas of design which MACH Acoustics would like draw particular attention to.
Report: Facade Optimisation For A Primary School
This report looks at the optimisation of a façade of a small primary school block, so to achieve the best possible performance in regards to acoustics, daylight, ventilation and energy use.
Example Report: Allies and Morrison Office
MACH was asked to provide advice on acoustic treatments for the Reception space and atrium with Allies & Morrison’s office.
Example Report: Imperial Tobacco
MACH was appointed by BAM Construction to provide acoustic design advice for the second phase of the proposed Imperial Tobacco development in Bristol.
Example Report: Keynsham Town Hall Design Report
MACH was asked by Willmott Dixon to review the likely acoustic performance of the open plan office spaces at Keynsham Town Hall.
Grand Central Hall - Guide to Music Space Design
This document is intended to provide some design rules-of-thumb to consider for any auditorium project when setting out the building layout, the room shape, height and what finishes to use.
Case Study: Winford Primary School
Winford school is located directly under the flight path of Bristol Airport, as such noise ingress is a significant issue. During the design stage of this building several design options where reviewed.
Case Study: St Peters Primary School
St Peters school is located in relatively close proximity to the M5 and as such, environmental noise levels are too high to allow for natural ventilation through openable windows.
Case Study: Rogiet Primary School
Rogiet Primary School is a timber frame building, located between the M4, M48 and in close proximity to the intercity train between Swansea and London.
Case Study: London Academies
London and West London Academies, two large £30M+ Academy are both designed around a natural ventilation, incorporating cross ventilation.
Case Study: Llwynderw Primary School
Llwynderw Primary School is a project in Abergaveny that MACH Acoustics worked on in partnership with Stride Treglown Architects and Willmott Dixon.
Case Study: Hertfordshire Law Court
The Law Court at the University of Hertfordshire is a £10M advanced facility, including a full-scale courtroom with public gallery, a working law clinic, a purpose built mediation centre and a dedicated CPD suite, as well as a large number of offices and classrooms.
Case Study: Dartington Primary School
Dartington Primary School is located in close proximity to the A384; a large busy road.
Case Study: Bristol Universtiy Graduate Centre
MACH Acoustics, in collaboration with Capita Architects, was involved in the sustainable refurbishment of Bristol University’s Graduate School.
Case Study: EEBW Vale Learning Zone
The Learning Zone lies at the heart of the regeneration and redevelopment of the former steelworks at Ebbw Vale, the largest regeneration project in Wales.
